MoE has implemented smaller classes of 30 students per class for Primary 1 classes from 2005 and Primary 2 classes from 2006. Parents — What’s your view on this?
My child has just started Primary 1 and seems like it’s all good! She has a shy nature and being in a new environment, she is not really socialising much with her new friends or talking to her teachers. How to help her get over this?
I think its better because the teacher’s attention can be slightly more focused towards these 30 kids. But, this will also mean that its very difficult to vie for places in primary schools because the intake will decrease because of the class size?
Haha yes Middlekingdom. This was donkey years ago…However, now that we are approaching 10 years..it’s good to review. Generally, I think that was a move for the better, although I have also read in an overseas research somewhere that there’s no positive correlations in terms of students’ learning.
I think teachers benefitted the most with this Smaller students-teacher ratio means more attention can be given to each child in the classroom. At the end of the day, whether it’s class size of 60 or 80, I think it’s still the teacher and his teaching delivery that matter most
