If your child can hold his attention in mobile games, it shows that he has no issue in attention span. You rightfully pointed out that your child needs to have experience real joy in learning to spur himself forward and be an independent learner. Children need concrete materials for hands-on learning. Let him count using sticks (and not a written 3 + 3  = 6 ). Play with phonic sounds. Make riddle. Read out silly poems! The facilitator (teachers or parents) have to be participative and encouraging so that the child feels encouraged in his learning. Instead of asking him to just doing his homework, ask him what he has learnt and play some related games with him using tools around the home or playing words games. Do science experiments with him. Let him experience the fun of learning. Let him experience success! Having experienced the wonders of world and words, your child would be motivated to want to learn more. It is an inborn characteristics in Man to want to succeed. All babies want to learn to crawl, to walk, to talk. All children want to progress. What is needed is a good teacher and an emotionally-safe learning environment.Only a discouraged person would not try.

A child should not have too many paper homework in the expense of concrete playing, role playing or experimenting. Please do not hesitate to let me know if I can further support you.

My daughter dislike go to kindergarten. I asked her why… she replied that teacher give her many homework. But after I checked with teacher found that only give her 3 pages of writing homework. She told me she don’t like school because she cannot play toys. In fact, everyday teacher will bring them to outdoor playground for 1hour play time. I’m stress as not sure she can adapt next year P1 school life or not…. currently she is attending educational therapy at KKH due teacher feedback that she is slow in learning. Appreciate you can advise some way to me how to make her feel enjoy for school life. Many thanks !

My child is always easily distracted. With mobile games, it is even more difficult to engage him in learning. When I sit him down for homework or revision, he is always unable to stay in his seat for more than half hour. How to I cultivate a passion in learning in him so that he is willing to do it on his own accord?
